“Drop Temple” (sometimes called “reverse temple”) refers to a style of eyeglasses where the arms are attached much lower on the frame than in typical styles, usually towards the very bottom of the lens. Many of them have ornamentation and detailing on the arms, in part to draw attention to their unconventional placement. The arms then often angle upwards again to hook around the ear. Drop-temple styles are typically combined with oversize lenses, and were very much in style in the 1980′s. In eyeglasses, this style leans towards “grandma chic”; in sunglasses, they look very retro and glamorous, with the temple placement and arm embellishment distinguishing them from most pairs.
