Many people seeking vintage glasses do so with the image of Buddy Holly in their minds. There are plenty of thick, black plastic frames out there…but how can you be sure you’re getting the look exactly right?
In an earlier post I suggested that Ray-Ban Wayfarers were the correct choice for the Buddy Holly look. But when we compare them to pictures of the man himself, it’s easy to see that while the Wayfarers are close, they’re not quite perfect. For one, Wayfarers are horn-rimmed, while the glasses Buddy Holly wore have almost a smooth curve from the bottom of the frame to the temple, with the horn being less pronounced. Also, the metallic shape at the temple of Holly’s glasses is square, rather than oval as in the Wayfarer. Another telltale difference: the Buddy Holly glasses are noticeably thicker along the browline than at the lens bottom.
So, what’s an imitator to do?
The Shuron Freeway comes a lot closer:

You’re right. . .I’m doing at tribute deal herein Memphis and it’s been a pain finding the right look.
